Introduction. The
law relating to copyright is contained in the Copyright Act,1957.It extends to
the whole of India and came into force on January 21,1958. The Act has been
amended in 1983, 1984,1992 and 1994 primarily to bring the Indian law in
conformity with the international conventions in general and Bern Convention and
the Universal Copyright Convention in particular. The objective of the 1957 Act
was to amend and consolidate the law relating to copyright as was available that
time.
Section 2 gives the interpretation of certain
expressions as used in the Act. Sections 9-11 deal with Copyright Office and
Copyright Board. These are summarised below:
